The prolonged COVID‑19 pandemic has affected far more than our physical health — it has placed a significant strain on our emotional well‑being and mental resilience. In order to reduce the risk of infection, many of us have had to limit contact with friends and family, cut back on social activities, and even give up leisure travel. Months or years of remote working, living in confined spaces, and coping with multiple stressors can take a toll, sometimes leading to emotional disorders — most commonly, depression.
If you — or someone you care about — are experiencing any of the following symptoms, please seek professional mental health support without delay:
Persistent low mood or sadness
Loss of interest or pleasure in activities
Feelings of worthlessness or lack of motivation
Changes in appetite or weight
Difficulty sleeping or sleeping too much
Trouble concentrating
Thoughts of self‑harm or ending your life
Depression is treatable. With early diagnosis and timely intervention — which may include counselling, therapy, lifestyle changes, and, when appropriate, medication — recovery is possible. Reaching out for help is a sign of strength, and taking that first step can restore hope, improve quality of life, and help you regain a healthy, fulfilling future.
